NORS Training Matrix
The National Operator Registration Scheme (NORS) is the centralised validation; registration and certification scheme for all RTITB accredited training. Check the matrix grid to determine the applicable course.
Successful candidates will be registered on NORS.
Registration on NORS lasts for 3 years from the date of test. Six months prior to expiry, all operators are sent notification that their registration period is due to expire, therefore encouraging re-training/testing and in turn improving safety and efficiency in workplace transport.
Training for Counterbalance Forklift Truck
The forklift truck, also known as a counter balance lift truck, is one of the most successful lifting machines of all time. Forklifts are rated for particular loads at a maximum weight and forward centre of gravity. It is important for machine operators to understand the limitations of the machine they are operating to maintain safety in the workplace. Our courses are designed to give your workers the accredited training they need to use the forklift efficiently and safely at all times.
Premises Requirements
- Counterbalance forklift truck in good working and safe condition
- A room to carry out the theory classroom elements of the course
- An area of approximately 30sqm to operate the Forklift and conduct practical lessons and test
- 30 or more empty pallets
- Loads to lift, move & stack
- Racking or loads that can be stacked at ground, eye & high levels

- Novice: For Candidates who have no experience of operating any kind of lift truck
- Experienced: For Candidates with lots of practical experience and no initial formal training
- Refresher: For Candidates recertification following expiry of their current. Certificate
- Conversion: For Candidates who have certification on one machine to be trained tested and certified on another

Avoid Costly Mistakes
Every year approximately 8,000 fork lift truck accidents are reported to the HSE. This figure represents all workplace accidents. Around 1 in 4 workplace accidents involve a fork lift truck. These accidents come in many forms from damage to equipment and materials to minor injuries, serious injuries and even death. In the vast majority of case, operator error is to blame. It is the responsibility of the employer to provide effective training for their MHE operators under PUWER 1998 and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. Complying to the above increases safety and minimises the risk of accidents whilst also improving the efficiency of the operator.
Health & Safety at Work
We follow the Approved Code of Practice for rider-operated lift trucks, known as L117, the HSE’s definitive point of reference for fork lift training. L117 has special legal status (if it’s proved you did not follow it, a court will find you at fault, unless you can show you have complied with the law in some other way) so if you stick to it, not only will you ensure your operations are compliant with UK law, they’ll be safe and efficient too.
